Baby Spa Day Reviews: Part 1

The favorite gift pre-baby was lots and lots of baby spa gift sets. I understand it because I am a beauty product junkie. I love taking time for myself to care for my skin or hair or nails. Most of our friends and family assumed I would want to spoil my baby the same way.

Johnson’s® No More Tears Baby Shampoo

  • A tried and true for any baby bath time ritual
  • We opened this one first because I know this formula to be truly tear-free
  • Bath after bath, we used this shampoo to cleanse her body and her face from baby acne
  • It’s amazing how fast her baby acne clears up from cleaning her face and body
  • We even started using the soap to clean the goopies out of Ellie’s eyes
  • She LOVED her bath each time without any fuss over getting water or soap in her eyes

Aveeno® Baby Soothing Relief Moisturizing Cream

  • Aveeno is my “go-to” brand for skincare everywhere – it absorbs quickly, it’s fragrance free, and it makes your skin feel wonderful after just one use
  • When Ellie’s skin started to peel due to the typical baby-no-longer-suspended-in-fluid problem, I immediately went for the Aveeno after each bath
  • The active ingredient: 1.2% Dimethicone
  • I did not notice drastic improvements of the flaky skin on her hands and feet with this lotion, but it was nice to apply to her after her bath

Aveeno® Baby Daily Moisture Lotion

  • Here’s a funny coincidence: Like the other Aveeno cream, the active ingredient is 1.2% of Dimethicone
  • Same active ingredient.
  • When I applied this baby lotion, I noticed no difference from the Cream above
  • To thoroughly test, I applyed the baby lotion to my hands and noticed no difference between the baby cream, the baby lotion, and the regular Aveeno daily moisture for adults (also 1.2% Dimethicone)
  • As a die hard Aveeno fan, I would rather just purchase the adult version of Aveeno since I cannot detect a difference and all three versions are fragrance free

Johnson’s® CottonTouch™ Newborn Wash & Shampoo

  • Oh yuck! This scent was so overpoweringly floral, I used it once and threw it away
  • I didn’t even want to use this on myself to use up the sample
  • The soap washed away clean and did not appear to bother Ellie’s eyes – 100% on par with the No More Tears formula above
  • I cannot recommend this shampoo due to the overpoweringly scent that does not smell like “baby”
  • I’ll stick with the original No More Tears over the CottonTouch scent

Honest Face + Body Lotion – Truly Calming Lavender

  • This lotion was sheer and lightweight compared to what I was expecting
  • The application was smooth and soaked in easily
  • The lavender scent was absolutely wonderful – smelled like the real lavender I have growing in my garden
  • The downside was the scent didn’t last beyond the application
  • When I went to snuggle my baby, I smelled the (No More Tears) shampoo strongly over the lavender lotion I applied liberally

Boogie Wipes® Saline Nose Wipes

  • Oh, the Boogie Wipe. These little wonders are known for their versatility to grab any icky baby mess – nose, face, or otherwise
  • When I used them to wipe little Ellie’s nose, she hated it – wining and crying
  • But I like that it cleaned with one wipe and was easy to manipulate and fold to the shape I need to grab her snot
  • I would recommend these over baby wipes for face especially because they do not have the alcohol that baby wipes usually have

Eight days into motherhood, I needed a place to be myself again. Follow me as I grow into this new role.

  1. Just read the product reviews.. brought back a lot of memories! I have to put in a plug for my favorite product…Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. Works great and none of that nasty Desinex smell you can’t get off your hands for hours.
